The Golf Club at Middle Bay | Middle Bay Golf Course

The Golf Club at Middle Bay, preciously the private Middle Bay Country Club, is now a Semi- Private, 18 hole golf course located in Oceanside, New York.

The Golf Club of Middle Bay's golf course first opened for play in 1955. The course was designed by Alfred H. Tull. Hal Purdy redesigned the course in 1963, followed by Stephan Kay, who remodeled two holes in 1984.

This links-style course has water hazards coming into play on many holes. The greens are well bunkered and fast. The fairways are wide, and the wind is often a factor, so be prepared to use every club in your bag.

Middle Bay Golf Course is 6819 yds. from the back tees with a 134 slope as rated by the National Professional Golf Association. The middle tees are 6521 yds. with a 132 slope and the forward tees 5489 yds. with a 123 slope. Water comes into play on 8 holes, and strong bay winds can significantly affect 6 perimeter holes and influence all the holes.

The challenge at Middle Bay is to simply to drive straight, adjust for the wind, pitch close, avoid all hazards, and chip & putt with extreme skill and accuracy. Sounds simple, but you know better.

Middle Bay Country Club closed in January 2013, a casualty of Hurricane Sandy. The course suffered $3.5 million in damage from Hurricane Sandy, is closed and is headed for bankruptcy, the Long Island (N.Y.) Newsday reported.

The golf course did reopen several weeks after Sandy's floodwaters caused extensive damage to club facilities, equipment and the greens. Insurance covered about two-thirds of the repair costs, but Middle Bay was also hit with a sudden loss of membership after the storm as members had flood problems of their own to handle.

The club shut down operations for a time. The course reopened in 2014 with upgrades.
